Middle Verde, AZ Arsenic Reduction

AdEdge Water Technologies was contacted by Indian Health Services in August 2009 to design, manufacture, and start up an arsenic removal system for the Middle Verde community in Arizona. Middle Verde had an arsenic concentration of 0.02 mg/L, well above the United States Environmental Protection Agency which has a maximum contaminant level of 0.01 mg/L.

The AdEdge treatment system consisted of an adsorption system using the AdEdge E33 granular ferric oxide media. The system was rated for a maximum capacity of 420 gallons per minute. Prior to the treatment system, the raw water is injected with chlorine to oxidize the arsenic and to optimize the media for arsenic removal. Backwashing of the treatment vessels occurs approximately every thirty days depending on the incoming levels of arsenic and gallons processed.

The treatment system was installed and began operation in December 2011. Since the treatment system began operation, arsenic levels have lowered from 0.02 mg/L to below the treatment goal of 0.01 mg/L.
